Dungse Labs is reinventing an age old building material of cow-dung, into high quality sustainable products that enhance life on earth. 

Dungse Labs has pioneered the technology of building high-quality bio-based composite materials using surplus cow dung produced by dairy industries globally. We amplify the intrinsic properties of cow dung including anti-microbial, light-weight, and water-repulsion for unique material needs.  Using precise production techniques and a deep understanding of cow dung, we have perfected the science of building biodegradable composites that can replace virgin wood, particle boards, and plastic. 

UTILISING SURPLUS

The surplus cow dung is a primary cause of methane emissions of the dairy industry. Leading dairy countries in the world produce >50% surplus cow dung that they don’t have resources to compost into manure.  

LOCALLY AVAILABLE

A renewable raw material produced in surplus by dairy industries around the world, making it possible to produce Dungse within a radius of 100 km anywhere on the planet, and through production doing a 250% value add to cow dung  

2X TIMES SUSTAINABLE

By re-envisioning the dung we are not only reducing the GHG emissions of dairy, but also providing bio based alternatives to traditional non-renewable and mined materials. Thereby reducing the footprint of two industries at a time. 

ANTI-FUNGAL

Cow-dung as a material has been
used by indigenous civilisations for millennial. It’s a unique bio based material unlike any other and its behaviour like anti-fungal or anti-depressant owes to the 50 million microbes residing in every gram of cow-dung. 

VERSATILE

Because of a unique mix of protein and fatty acid biomass and cellulose, cow dung exhibits a range of desirable and versatile properties including  light weight, thermal insulation, water repulsion and high tactile value. 

RICH NUTRIENTS

The phosphates and nitrates in the that dung  is right in, continue to say locked up in our composites. While biodegrading  after it’s product lifetime, these nutrients in Dungse return back to the soil where they come from

Studio carbon is an Indian-Dutch studio that works at the intersection of design, systems thinking and storytelling to build solutions for an abundant and thriving future.

In the spring of 2019, we started tinkering with cow-dung to explore its potential as a future-proof material. We had seen the challenges faced by dairy farmers and the environment from surplus cow dung. But we also knew that there is wisdom about this material helped by numerous indigenous communities around the world, who have used it for centuries to enhance their everyday life.  It’s now been 3 years across two countries (India and Netherlands) that we started Dungse. After months of indigenous and scientific research, innumerable experiments, and 16 potential composites, we finally have a secret ingredient ready to make products that enhance the quality of life on earth.
